Viral Heamorrhagic Fevers (VHFs)
Viral hemorrhagic fever(VHF)is a general term of illnesses, that sometimes are associated with bleeding and profound multisystem organ dysfunction caused by a number of viruses. The term is usually applied to disease caused by viruses of the following families:
- Arenaviridae (Lassa, Lujo, Junin, Guanarito, Sabia, Machupo and Chapare)
- Bunyaviridae (Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever [CCHF], Rift Valley fever and hantaviruses)
- Filoviridae (Ebola and Marburg)
- Flaviviridae (yellow fever, dengue, Omsk haemorrhagic fever, Kyasanur forest disease and Alkurma haemorhagic fever).
Purpose
To provide guidance on the best case management practices for VHF across all levels of health-care
Objectives
- To provide a standardized and simplified approach to comprehensive management of VHF
- To provide to healthcare workers an updated, evidence-based and simplified guide about new advances in management of viral hemorrhagic fevers including, Therapeutic agents, Nutritional considerations for confirmed cases, Safe Dignified Burials, Follow-up of Survivors, Communication elements during case management.
